Peter Jev­ni­kar recei­ved a dr. dent. med. degree from the Medi­cal Facul­ty, Uni­ver­si­ty of Ljublja­na, Slove­nia in 1992. After pas­sing the natio­nal board exam in 1993, he ente­red post­gra­dua­te pro­gram at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Ljublja­na. Part of his rese­arch on the set­ting reac­tion moni­to­ring of glass iono­mer cements was done at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Water­loo, Cana­da. He defen­ded his M.Sc. the­sis in 1997. He recei­ved his Ph.D. degree from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Ljublja­na in 2008. In coope­ra­ti­on with the Cera­mics Dept., Jozef Ste­fan Insti­tu­te, Ljublja­na, the nano-struc­tu­red alu­mi­na­te coa­ting was deve­lo­ped during his doc­to­ral trai­ning that pro­mo­tes bon­ding to zir­co­nia cera­mics. Natio­nal Rese­arch Agen­cy of Slove­nia appoin­ted him as a head of the rese­arch group in 2008, that is invol­ved in zir­co­nia den­tal cera­mics rese­arch and is reco­gni­zed as one of the lea­ding groups in the field.

Pro­fes­sor Jev­ni­kar has been working in the Depart­ment of Pro­st­h­odon­ti­cs, Medi­cal Facul­ty, Uni­ver­si­ty of Ljublja­na sin­ce 1999, whe­re he recei­ved a pro­st­h­odon­tic spe­cial­ty trai­ning. He is invol­ved in tea­ching at the under­gra­dua­te as well as post­gra­dua­te level. His cli­ni­cal inte­rests focus on implant reha­bi­li­ta­ti­on of eden­tu­lous and oral can­cer pati­ents. He has lec­tu­red natio­nal­ly and inter­na­tio­nal­ly.
