Peter Jevnikar received a dr. dent. med. degree from the Medical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1992. After passing the national board exam in 1993, he entered postgraduate program at the University of Ljubljana. Part of his research on the setting reaction monitoring of glass ionomer cements was done at the University of Waterloo, Canada. He defended his M.Sc. thesis in 1997. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Ljubljana in 2008. In cooperation with the Ceramics Dept., Jozef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, the nano-structured aluminate coating was developed during his doctoral training that promotes bonding to zirconia ceramics. National Research Agency of Slovenia appointed him as a head of the research group in 2008, that is involved in zirconia dental ceramics research and is recognized as one of the leading groups in the field.
Professor Jevnikar has been working in the Department of Prosthodontics, Medical Faculty, University of Ljubljana since 1999, where he received a prosthodontic specialty training. He is involved in teaching at the undergraduate as well as postgraduate level. His clinical interests focus on implant rehabilitation of edentulous and oral cancer patients. He has lectured nationally and internationally.
